Mountain bike holiday, Naturno

From Tuesday to Thursday, from Easter to November, a comfortable coach will take you and your mountain or racing bike from Naturno to the starting point of wonderful tours – either to Glorenza, which is 50 kilometres away, or to the village of Curon at lake Resia, which is 65 kilometres away. In the latter, you will find the famous church tower rising from the waters. From there, you will cycle along the scenic panoramic bike trails of the Venosta Valley back to Naturno. This trail partly also runs along the world-famous Via Claudia Augusta, an ancient Roman road, on the sides of which you will marvel at art-historical sites, vast orchards and impressive structures. Of course, you don’t need to cycle back the whole distance of about 65 kilometres. You can always get on the Venosta Valley train. However, we would like to point out in advance: From the Resia, it’s a long way downhill. Adventure tip: you can also get to know Merano, the city of culture, simply on a bike. Exploring Naturno, the Merano region and the whole of South Tyrol, by mountain bike means experiencing action and nature at the same time. And cycling over forest trails overgrown with roots beyond the horizon. You can go downhill on more than 50 perfectly signposted single trails and downhill tracks all around your Feldhof bike hotel. Of course, there are not only trails for mountain bike pros. All around Naturno, easier tours invite you to explore. Over hillside vineyards, through orchards and past the most beautiful sights of the Venosta Valley. The famous Transalp also goes through Naturno.

Where there are mountains, there are also passes: which is why the Venosta Valley and South Tyrol are a veritable gold mine for all those seeking perfect serpentine lanes. The wonderfully winding mountain and pass roads will reward you with a breath-taking view and smooth descents. However, Passo dello Stelvio should be at the top of your list. With a height of 2,757 metres, it is Italy’s highest mountain pass as well as the second-highest paved mountain road in the Alps. On some days, the road is even completely closed to normal motorised traffic and only open to racing bikes. Other rewarding passes are Passo delle Palade, Passo della Mendola, the legendary Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road at a height of 2,474 metres, Passo di Pènnes and the many idyllic mountain valleys Val Senales, Val d’Ultimo or Val Martello around your bike hotel in Naturno.

Which is why Ötzi Bike Academy offers riding technique classes for beginners and advanced mountain bikers and e-bikers every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. On Tuesdays, your individual performance is improved in “introduction to the terrain”, while on Thursdays you can learn all about the tips and tricks of the pros. Every Wednesday, the exciting riding technique class for kids takes place, and on every Monday afternoon, you can practise for yourself on the course.
